Things To Do

Ovington is a great base to explore the surrounding area with opportunities to walk, cycle or canoe within the immediate area. Historic attractions such as the Bowes Museum, Raby Castle, Barnard Castle and picturesque Richmond are all within a short drive. Further afield are the cities of Durham and Newcastle.

If you are a walker, cyclist, biker or canoeist, we can offer drying facilities for your equipment, please just let us know. We can also offer a packed lunch option, just ask.

Kynren – Auckland Castle, Selected Dates – Summer 2016

An exciting new development is taking shape in Bishop Auckland with its opening night in July 2016!! Based on the Puy du Fou in France, the huge, weekly, open air theatrical event, called Kynren, describes British history through the ages and is presented by the Eleven Arches Night Show on a 7.5 acre stage, live action and entertainment for all the family. Bowes Museum – Barnard Castle

Raby Castle, Staindrop

One of England’s Finest Medieval Castles with over 600 years of history and a glimpse of life throughout the ages. Croft Circuit

Motor and bike racing feature locally at the Croft Racing circuit, some 30 minutes and easy access from us. Check the fixture list on www.croftcircuit.co.uk/events and book youself accommodation whether a spectator or competitor.

Richmond

With the variety of shopping and its many pubs, hotels and restaurants, the proximity to the most stunning scenery anywhere to be seen, Richmond is decribed as 'an absolute gem' by the Rough Guides. The heart of Herriot country where BBC All Creatures Great and Small was filmed.

High Force Waterfall

High Force is a waterfall on the River Tees, near Middleton-in-Teesdale, The waterfall is within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Killhope Mine

Killhope is a fully restored nineteenth century Victorian lead mine, where you can experience the life and work of the lead mining families of the Pennine dales. Killhope is famous for its huge working waterwheel.

Forbidden Corner

The Forbidden Corner is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises created within a four acre garden in the heart of Tupgill Park and the Yorkshire Dales. A tourist visitor attraction unlike anywhere that you have been before, ideal for the adventurers and those young at heart! – We love it!!!!
